A light unto the Nations

Many people who have relationships with xtians claim they are being a "light unto the nations" yet they are not telling the xtians they have to give up xtianity. Last I checked the "light" that we are suppose to give to the nations is the Torah and the belief in one G-d. Being a "light unto the nations" is not a commandment, it is a fact. Someone once described it to me this way: Am Yisrael is like a lighthouse that shines a light to show the way, it is up to the lost to go towards the light. When we as a nation are living by Torah we are a light, by example. We were never meant to go out into churches to bring people out of idolatry. That would be analogous to jumping into a deep pit to pull someone out instead of throwing down a rope. In the end we get stuck in the pit with them.

WHY CHRISTIANITY IS WRONG EVEN FOR GENTILES

  1. In the article you link to, it says that it is an obligation upon every Jew to spread the 7 mitzvot. "Moshe Rabbeinu was commanded from the mouth of the Al-mighty to force all the inhabitants of the earth to accept the commandments that were commanded upon the descendants of Noah." (Rambam, Mishneh Torah, Laws of Kings 8:10)

Of course we must not bring xians into our homes and communities. The key is to build fences around the Torah and to protect ourselves.

  2. First of all, it says Moshe Rabbeinu was commanded by G-d to force (not teach) them to observe the 7 Noahide laws. I don't see how we can do that at this time.

Secondly, the Noahide laws have been spread through the internet (which maintains the physical separation).

There are two points to the article
    1. xtianity is idolatry
    2. Jews have an obligation to tell non-Jews that G-d requires them to give up xtianity and follow the 7 laws of Noach.

I stand by my opinion that Jews should not be dealing with xtians or going to their churches even if they claim to be doing it to spread the 7 laws of Noach (which alot of them are not). When a xtian gives up his belief in xtianity and wants to learn to be a bnai Noach then we can deal with(teach) him. Many xtians have done this already. Certainly they should not be inviting xtians into their homes where they can have contact with Jewish children.

  3. I agree with you completely. It would be moronic to go into churches to spread the 7 laws.

I am not arguing with you about anything. I am on your side. ;)

I just wanted to quote the article.

"...There no longer exists even a remote doubt of any danger involved with spreading the Noahide Laws...". Consequently, the Jewish people must now become totally involved to the maximum of their capacity and effort to fulfill the Torah obligation to teach and transform all gentiles throughout the world. Anyone who seeks to exempt himself from this mitzvah, claiming he is already busy with other mitzvahs (ahavas Yisroel, etc.), is, in effect, throwing off the yoke of heaven. "This is the opposite of Torah, and is neither a benefit for him nor for those [Jews] whom he is helping—and utilizing—to exempt himself from kabbalas ol malchus shamayim [accepting the yoke of heaven]!"

(Lubavitcher Rebbe, Sefer Hisvaduyos, Purim, 1987)

  6. B"h

BK, when you learn the Ramba"m, you must learn it from the beginning as was the Ramba"m's intentions.

    You missed the part about...

    1. "the forcing" being in Eretz Yisrael alone.

    2. Hil. AZ 10 - we're supposed to try to get rid of them first anyway, and those who are left we're supposed to make it difficult for them to stay here.

    3. We are exempt from chasing after AZ outside of Israel. This also means there are other misswoth which would take precedence over this anyway.
